Christmas 2001 Greetings and may Gods blessings be with you! This was a year of sadness and loss with the passing of Dans father in June; he was diagnosed with heart disease and died peacefully during the night. He is greatly missed and had a great impact on his community, but his memories live on vividly in our hearts and minds.
Agnes and Dan were happily unemployed last Holiday season, but the Lord opened doors for each of us to start on the same day last March, only a couple miles from our home. Agnes is working about two days a week, we are much happier with our schedule. Dan only travels every few months, Agnes works Wednesday and Friday and Alaina is in after school day care. It is much more manageable. Dan is at Corning in optical communications, enjoying quite a career span, from Aerospace to Medical to Telecom, all in lasers and electro-optics.
It was a humbling experience for Dan to be looking for the right job opportunity for 9 months, a real sense of loss of identity, loss of position, loss of motivation. But in the end, the best position was accepted, and he is very happy to be using his electro-optical experience supporting manufacturing and development of new all-optical fiber optic networks. The division's market segment is reconfigurable add/drop multiplexers for all optical networks, which lowers operating costs.
Melissa was on the JV tennis team at Los Alamitos High School and enjoyed the challenge of working her way up the ladder. Jocelyn has also been busy with tennis camps, having enrolled in 7 camps and placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd on in all of them. Alaina started tennis lessons as well, but mostly likes to play with Dad.
We are still active at Chinese Presbyterian Church of Orange County, the girls have lots of friends they have known all their lives. Dan has been meeting with a mens accountability group every Sunday night for the past two years. This has been a great blessing and we are able to discuss some deep mens issues, as we are all approaching mid-life. Agnes has been praying regularly with other women in the church and has been growing deeper relationships with other believers. Memorial Day the whole family went up for the weekend to Forest Home with several other families from our church.
Agnes is the brownie troop leader for Alainas troop and every other week they have a fun group activity. This month they are in the Seal Beach Christmas Parade. On Thursdays, Agnes goes to Community Bible Study and also teaches the 4 and 5 year olds. After 14 years, it is her opportunity to give back to the program that has blessed her so much.
Hope everything is going well for all of you. Please check out our website, type in daniel wayne liu to Yahoo or any search engine and our site will come up. We got DSL this year, so I hope to work on expanding the site to include lots more about our family, stories, pictures and history. So much better than those old slide shows and 8mm movies, now you can click through them as fast or slow as you like! |
